A letter was sent out to a number of families about a home Bible study that would be “a bible-centered study and group gathering where a person’s sole interest is to develop biblical understanding and be encouraged with a good scholarly study of the Bible.”

The Bible study core group and Gerry Webber, president of Continental Baptist Missions, met to discuss next steps to plant a church. The group decided to develop doctrinal and philosophical cohesion. Weekly Bible studies began with a focus on building doctrinal and philosophical unity among the core group.
During the annual business meeting of Fourth Baptist Church, Pastor McLachlan mentioned three great ministry objectives under “A Word from the Pastor.” They were:
- Reaching In
- Reaching Out
- Planting Churches
He said, “Individual Christians give birth to new Christians through biblical evangelism. But it is the responsibility of churches to give birth to churches . . . Once again we are involved in a bi-monthly Bible study in Elk River, MN, that has the potential to develop into a church . . . Church planting should be a regular part of what we do as a body of believers at Fourth.”
Began to meet during the Sunday school hour as a group at Fourth Baptist Church.
